What is the Ethereum Merge?
The Etheruem Merge represents the shift of the Ethereum network from a Proof-of-Work to (PoW) blockchain to a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) blockchain. The merge has been six years in the making and is expected to reduce energy consumption by over 99% relative to the prior PoW model.
What is a futures contract?
A futures contract is a financial arrangement to purchase or sell a specific asset at a fixed price at a designated time in the future. When trading occurs, buyers and sellers are actually trading a contract, not an asset which means you do not actually have to hold custody of the underlying asset itself.
You can freely trade the futures until the expiration date at which point the contract would be permanently settled.
What are ETH Merge Futures?
ETH Merge futures allow traders to essentially place bids on the future price of ETH. This enables users to place their beliefs on the future market in order to trade.
By the expiration date of September 19, 2022 the ETH merge should be completed, allowing the contract to be officially settled.
